• Minneapolis Moline used the 6 volt starter through the 1952 model year
• From 1953 on the same engines were built with a 12 volt starter
• The listed year ranges span that change, so check the system
• A 12 volt machine will NOT use this unit
THE ENGINES:
• The 283 is a 283.7 cubic inch, 4.6 litre, four cylinder, about 49 hp
• Bore and stroke 4.25 by 5.00 inches, oil bath air cleaner
• The 403 is a 403 cubic inch four cylinder, bore and stroke 4 5/8 by 6
• Both are spark ignition, gas and LP gas

• 283-4A from number 02302038 and after
• 403-4A from number 02402245 and after
• The D283-4A diesel is a separate unit, from number 07700001
HOW TO VERIFY FIT:
• Clockwise, right hand rotation viewed from the pinion end
• 9 tooth pinion, direct drive, closed nose cone
• SADDLE mount, no bolt holes, grounded case, Delco 10MT family
• SIX VOLT, about 23 lb / 10.45 kg
DO NOT ORDER IF:
• Your machine runs a 12 volt system, this is the 6 volt unit
• Your starter bolts on through a flange, this one is a saddle mount
• You have the D283-4A diesel power unit
