IMPORTANT:
This valve cover gasket fits the Cummins QSB3.3 with 4-valve head configuration (2014+ Tier 4 engines). Cummins part 5271001 is for the 4-valve head ONLY — earlier 2-valve B3.3 engines use a completely different gasket shape and bolt pattern. The #1 ordering mistake is confusing 2-valve and 4-valve versions. Check your engine dataplate or count the valves per cylinder before ordering.
Failure symptoms: oil seeping from under the valve cover, oil pooling on the exhaust manifold causing smoke and burning smell, or oil dripping onto the turbocharger. Rubber valve cover gaskets on the QSB3.3 harden over time from heat cycling. When replacing, also inspect the valve cover bolt grommets/isolators — worn grommets prevent proper clamping and cause leaks even with a new gasket. Torque valve cover bolts evenly in a crisscross pattern per the service manual.
