IMPORTANT:
EXHAUST valve for Caterpillar C4.4 engines (4.4L, 4-cylinder). The Cat C4.4 IS the Perkins 1104C-44T/1104D-44T engine — internal components are identical. Perkins equivalent exhaust valve is 3142A181. If searching by Perkins part number, the valve is the same. Requires 4 exhaust valves per engine. Do NOT confuse with intake valve 309-6678 — exhaust valves have a smaller head diameter and use high-temperature alloy.
This engine appears across Cat 416E-434F backhoes, 242D-299D skid steers/CTLs, 906H-908M wheel loaders, 305.5-308E2 excavators, and many other applications. Also found in JCB 3CX/4CX and Massey Ferguson 5400-series tractors using the Perkins 1104. When replacing, inspect valve guides for wear, check seats for pitting/erosion, and replace valve stem seals. Exhaust valves see the highest thermal stress — check removed valves for heat cracking, face erosion, and deformation. Measure valve protrusion after installation. Adjust valve lash per service manual.
