MASSEY FERGUSON TRACTORS:
• Massey Ferguson 165/175/180/255/265/275/... 4.236 3.86L Diesel (1964-1990)
MASSEY FERGUSON COMBINES:
• Massey Ferguson 510/520/530 4.236 3.86L Diesel (1975-1990)
IMPORTANT:
EXHAUST valve for Perkins G4.236 engines (3.86L, 4-cylinder, naturally aspirated, indirect injection). The Perkins 4.236 is one of the most widely produced diesel engines in history — found in Massey Ferguson tractors, JCB backhoes, marine applications, industrial gensets, and dozens of other OEM brands. Do NOT confuse with the turbocharged T4.236 or the later 1000/1100 Series Perkins engines — each engine family uses different valve dimensions. Requires 4 exhaust valves per engine. Do NOT confuse with the intake valve for this engine — exhaust valves have a smaller head diameter.
Fits Massey Ferguson 165/175/180/255/265/275 and later 285/290/375/390 tractors, plus MF 510/520/530 combines. On these vintage engines, exhaust valve seat recession is the most common valve train issue — if protrusion exceeds the service limit, seats must be recut or replaced with hardened inserts. When replacing, inspect valve guides for wear, replace valve stem seals, and check spring free length. Adjust valve lash per service manual after reassembly.
⚠️ Confirm engine is Perkins 4.236 (NA, IDI) — not T4.236 or 1000/1100 Series.
