IMPORTANT:
OIL PRESSURE RELIEF valve for Perkins 4.236 naturally aspirated diesel engines (3.86L, 4-cylinder, indirect injection). The Perkins 4.236 is one of the most widely produced diesel engines in history — found in Massey Ferguson tractors, JCB backhoes, marine applications, industrial gensets, and dozens of other OEMs. Do NOT confuse with the turbocharged T4.236 or the later 1000/1100 series Perkins engines — the oil pressure relief valve is different for each family.
Symptoms: low oil pressure at hot idle (worn spring or stuck open), high cold-start pressure (stuck closed), gauge fluctuation, oil leaks at valve bore. On these older engines, low oil pressure is commonly caused by worn main/rod bearings rather than the relief valve — check bearing clearances before replacing. The 4.236 uses indirect injection (IDI) with pre-combustion chambers — do not confuse with later Perkins direct injection engines. When replacing, clean sludge from bore and replace sealing O-ring.
⚠️ Confirm engine is Perkins 4.236 (NA, IDI) — not T4.236 or 1000/1100 series.
