JOHN DEERE COMPACT TRACTORS:
• John Deere 670/770/790 6.101 1.65L Diesel (1989-1998)
• John Deere 855/856 6.101 1.65L Diesel (1986-1998)
IMPORTANT:
EXHAUST valve for John Deere 6.101 engines (1.65L, 3-cylinder, naturally aspirated, indirect injection). The JD 6.101 is a Yanmar 3TN84 built under license — Yanmar parts may cross-reference but always verify dimensions. Requires 3 exhaust valves per engine (2-valve-per-cylinder design). Do NOT confuse with intake valve R101304 — exhaust valves have a smaller head diameter and use high-temperature alloy.
Fits John Deere compact tractors (670/770/790) and compact utility (855/856). These are small, naturally aspirated indirect injection (IDI) engines — do NOT confuse with the larger JD 3029 or 4045 PowerTech engines which use completely different valves. On IDI engines, carbon buildup in the pre-combustion chambers creates hot spots that accelerate exhaust valve wear — this is the most common reason these valves need replacement. When replacing, inspect valve guides for wear, check seats for pitting/recession, and replace valve stem seals. If the head has excessive seat recession, the seat must be recut or a new insert installed. Adjust valve lash to spec after reassembly — incorrect lash causes poor starting and accelerated wear.
⚠️ Exhaust valve only — for intake, order R101304. Qty: 3 per engine.
