Description

UNIVERSAL MARINE WIRE — 10 AWG BLACK TINNED COPPER PRIMARY WIRE 100 FT SPOOL:

ABYC E-11 STANDARD — BLACK COLOR USE (TRADITIONAL DC NEGATIVE):
Per ABYC E-11 marine electrical standards, BLACK is the traditional color for DC negative current-carrying conductors and ground return paths. Black remains acceptable per current ABYC standards (yellow has been the preferred color since the 2008 revision). At 10 AWG (~30-40 amps continuous), this medium-gauge black marine wire is intended for MEDIUM CURRENT DC negative return applications.

GAUGE HIERARCHY FOR BLACK DC NEGATIVE — WHEN TO USE 10 AWG:
• 14 AWG Black = Branch DC negative (electronics, lighting, smaller pumps)
• 12 AWG Black = Main DC negative (distribution panel, helm electronics)
• 10 AWG Black = MEDIUM CURRENT DC negative (subpanels, smaller inverters)
• 8 AWG Black = HIGH CURRENT DC negative (large inverters, windlass)
• 4 AWG / 2 AWG / 1/0 AWG = Main starter ground, large inverter ground

COMMON 10 AWG MARINE MEDIUM-CURRENT DC NEGATIVE APPLICATIONS:
• Distribution Panel Main Negative Return (30 Amp Service)
• Battery Negative Bus to Subpanel
• Smaller Inverter Negative Return (500-1000W Marine Inverters)
• Medium Bilge Pump Negative Return (1100-1500 GPH)
• Macerator Pump Negative Return
• Smaller Windlass / Anchor Winch Negative
• Trolling Motor Negative (12V Medium-Power Systems)
• Battery Charger Output Negative (10-30A Smart Chargers)
• Solar Charge Controller Output Negative (Medium Solar Arrays)
• Marine Refrigerator Negative Return (Medium Units)
• Stereo Amplifier Negative Return (300-500W Marine Amps)
• Subpanel Return Wiring in Mid-Size Vessels
• Cabin Heater Negative Return (Smaller Units)
• Marine Air Conditioning DC Negative (Smaller Units)
• Watermaker Negative Return (Smaller Watermakers)
• Trim Tab Pump Negative Return
• Engine Cooling Fan Negative
• Bait Tank Pump Negative (Larger Pumps)
• Spotlight and Deck Light Heavy Load Negatives
• Pre-2008 Construction with Black DC Negative Wiring
• Engine Manufacturer Harness Color Matching
• Repair and Extension of Existing Black Medium-Gauge Harness

NOTE ON MODERN ABYC PREFERENCE:
ABYC E-11 (2008 revision) lists YELLOW as the preferred color for DC negative in new construction. Black remains acceptable per current standards. For new builds requiring modern ABYC compliance, consider yellow gauge wire instead. Black is appropriate for matching existing harnesses, traditional builds, and where black is already the established negative color.

NOT RECOMMENDED FOR (USE LARGER GAUGE):
• Main Battery Negative Cables — Use 4, 2, or 1/0 AWG
• Engine Starter Ground Cables — Use 4, 2, or 1/0 AWG
• Large Inverter Negative (1500W+) — Use 8 AWG or 4 AWG
• Large Bow Thruster Negatives — Use 8 AWG, 4 AWG, or 2 AWG
• High-Current Loads Above ~40 Amps — Use 8 AWG or Larger

COMPATIBLE VESSEL TYPES:
• All Powerboats — Center Console, Cuddy Cabin, Express Cruiser, Walk-Around
• All Sailboats — Day Sailers, Cruisers, Racing Yachts
• Pontoon Boats and Houseboats with Medium-Current Accessories
• Bass Boats with Medium-Power Trolling Motors and Electronics
• Personal Watercraft (PWC) Larger Models
• Outboard Motor Distribution Wiring
• Sterndrive and Inboard Engine Charging System Returns
• RV and Trailer Marine-Grade Medium-Current Installations

STANDARDS COMPLIANCE:
• UL Listed UL1426 Boat Cable Standard
• ABYC E-11 Compliant (American Boat & Yacht Council)
• United States Coast Guard (USCG) Specifications
• Made in USA

FITMENT NOTE:
Universal medium-gauge marine wire — fits any marine application requiring 10 AWG black DC negative conductor. Per ABYC E-11, BLACK is the traditional DC negative color (acceptable per current standards). Yellow is preferred for new construction since 2008. Common DC pairing: 10 AWG red positive (COB-A2010T-01) + 10 AWG black negative (this item) for traditional 12V medium-current circuits. For higher current step up to 8 AWG; for branch circuits step down to 12 AWG.
