Kawasaki 440 SX Exhaust Gasket
Replacement exhaust gasket for the Kawasaki Jet Ski 440 SX personal watercraft equipped with the 436cc 2-stroke twin cylinder engine. This engine features a 68mm bore and 68mm stroke producing 27 horsepower at 6000 RPM with a single Mikuni BN38 carburetor CDI ignition and a 5.8 to 1 compression ratio using premix lubrication. This gasket seals the exhaust pipe connection preventing exhaust gas leaks. On 2-stroke engines proper exhaust sealing is critical because the exhaust system creates the back pressure needed for correct fuel scavenging. A leaking exhaust gasket disrupts this pressure balance causing lean running conditions that lead to overheating and piston damage. On personal watercraft the exhaust system is water cooled and a failed gasket can also allow water intrusion into the exhaust port causing hydro lock and catastrophic engine failure. Always inspect exhaust gaskets during routine maintenance and replace if cracked compressed or damaged. Clean both mating surfaces before installing the new gasket and torque fasteners to factory specification.
