Kawasaki JS 550 SX 550 Exhaust Gasket
Replacement exhaust gasket for Kawasaki Jet Ski JS 550 and SX 550 personal watercraft equipped with the 530cc 2-stroke twin cylinder engine. This engine features a 75mm bore and 60mm stroke producing 47 horsepower with CDI ignition reed valve induction and oil injection. The SX 550 uses a single Keihin CDK-II 38mm carburetor. This gasket seals the exhaust pipe connection preventing exhaust gas leaks. On 2-stroke engines proper exhaust sealing is critical because the exhaust system creates the back pressure needed for correct fuel scavenging. A leaking exhaust gasket disrupts this pressure balance causing lean running conditions that lead to overheating and piston damage. On personal watercraft the exhaust system is water cooled and a failed gasket can also allow water intrusion into the exhaust port causing hydro lock and catastrophic engine failure. Always inspect exhaust gaskets during routine maintenance and replace if cracked compressed or damaged. Clean both mating surfaces before installing the new gasket and torque fasteners to factory specification.
