ALSO SOLD AS MARINER AND QUICKSILVER:
• The same powerheads are branded Mariner in some markets
• Quicksilver boxes this alternator as 8M6005723 and 8M6010550
• Mercury numbers appear as 8M0205479 and 50-8M0205479
• The 508M0205479 spelling is the same number without the dash
• Delco Remy builds it and catalogs it as 8600766
THE SUPERSESSION CHAIN, ALL ONE ALTERNATOR:
• 8M0142248 was the original Mercury number
• 8M0205479 replaced it and is current today
• 8M6005723 and 8M6010550 are the Quicksilver service numbers
• Delco Remy 8600766 is the same unit under the builder's number
85 AMP AGAINST 115 AMP, THE REAL SPLIT:
• Mercury offered two alternators across this whole engine range
• This listing is the 85 amp build, the standard fitment
• Many 250 and 300 Verado and AMS engines carry a 115 amp unit
• The 115 amp unit was also a factory option on most models
• The model name does not decide it, the amp rating does
• Read the rating off the old alternator before you order
HOW TO VERIFY FIT:
• Confirm the old unit reads 85 amps, not 115 amps
• Count the pulley grooves, this unit has 5 on a serpentine belt
• Confirm 4 mounting bolt holes and a side plug
• Confirm the regulator and fan are both internal
• Read the engine serial number off the transom bracket
• Supercharged Verado L4 and L6 engines take a different unit
