IMPORTANT:
This wet brake disc fits the John Deere 40-series and early 50-series row-crop tractors with wet brakes. These models used BOTH wet and dry brake configurations depending on the axle option ordered from the factory. If your tractor has drum brakes (external brake shoes), this disc does not apply — you need brake pads instead (see R110464 or R111122). This is the #1 ordering mistake on 4040/4240/4440 brake parts.
The 4040/4240/4440 share the same wet brake housing as the 4050/4250 — R58758 fits all of these when equipped with wet brakes. Sold individually; each side uses a multi-disc pack. Count friction discs per side before ordering quantity. Failure symptoms include spongy pedal feel, excessive stopping distance under load, brake pedal slowly sinking, and overheating axle housings. When rebuilding, replace all friction and separator discs as a set for even braking. Inspect the brake piston seals and housing bore for scoring.
