IMPORTANT:
Cat 226-8766 is the same gasket as Perkins 3681P047 — same physical part with different branding. This timing gear cover gasket fits the earlier Cat 3054C engine (Perkins 1104C series), used in smaller Cat telehandlers and industrial applications. Do NOT confuse with Cat 225-8287 (Perkins 3681P046) which is a different timing cover gasket for the same engine family — they are not interchangeable. The timing cover on the 1100 series uses multiple gasket pieces in different positions.
Failure symptoms: oil seeping from the front timing cover, particularly near the bottom where oil pools from gravity. When replacing, inspect the front crankshaft seal and any O-rings in the timing cover area. Clean all mating surfaces thoroughly — old composite gasket material can embed in the aluminum housing. The 3054C engine is the predecessor to the C4.4 — same basic architecture but different emissions tier and some dimensional changes.
