PERKINS INDUSTRIAL ENGINES:
• Perkins 104-22 104-22 2.2L Diesel (1995-2006)
IMPORTANT:
Water temperature sensor for Perkins 104-22 engine (2.2L, 1995-2006 applications). Uses 2-pin M14x1.5 thread. The Perkins 104-22 is an older naturally aspirated engine that predates the 400 Series (402D/403D/404D). Do NOT confuse with 400 Series water temp sensors (W85720580, 85720500) — even though they share M14x1.5 thread and 2-pin connectors, the NTC resistance curves are different. The 104-22 was replaced by the 404D series around 2004 — make sure you know which engine generation is in your equipment.
Failure symptoms: temperature gauge malfunction, cooling fan issues, cold-start problems. The 104-22 is a mechanically governed engine with minimal electronic controls, so the temp sensor primarily drives the gauge and fan relay rather than ECU fuel management. However, incorrect readings still affect fan engagement and can lead to overheating if the fan never kicks on, or excessive fan noise and premature belt wear if it runs constantly. Verify by Perkins engine serial number.
⚠️ Verify 85720101 — this is for the 104-22 engine, NOT the 400 Series.
