IMPORTANT:
180°F thermostat ASSEMBLY (includes housing) for Cat 3054C/3054E engines (Perkins 1104C/1104D equivalent). Fits Cat 416D/420D/424D/428D backhoes and 312C/314C excavators (2001-2008 models).
The #1 ordering mistake: the 3054C housing changed between model years — 254-2269 is for 2001-2008 machines. Later C4.4 engines (2009+) use different housing assemblies. Check your machine serial number and engine build date.
On Cat 3054 engines, the plastic thermostat housing is a known weak point — it cracks with age and heat cycling. If you see coolant weeping at the housing, replace the entire assembly rather than just the element.
Failure symptoms: coolant leak at housing, overcooling, temp gauge reading low or fluctuating.
