IMPORTANT:
This is a WATER-IN-FUEL (WIF) sensor — it detects water intrusion in the fuel system. Do NOT confuse with a fuel rail pressure sensor (RE520930), fuel temp sensor (RE516336), or coolant temp sensor (RE522823). This is a simple 2-pin switch-type sensor, not a variable-output pressure or temperature sensor. The #1 mistake is buying a pressure sensor when you need the WIF sensor from the fuel filter housing.
Failure symptoms: false water-in-fuel warning light, engine derate or shutdown as a protective measure, or no warning when water IS present. Water in common rail diesels causes catastrophic injector and pump damage, so a working WIF sensor is critical. If warning stays on after draining the separator, the sensor has likely failed. Check the 2-pin connector for corrosion first — moisture at the connector is the most common cause of false alarms.
