IMPORTANT:
Water temperature sensor for Perkins 400 Series small diesel engines (402D/403D/404D, 2004-2020). Uses 2-pin M14x1.5 thread. Perkins W85720580 and 185246280 cross-reference to the same sensor. Do NOT confuse with 85720500 (also a 400 Series water temp sensor) — both have the same thread and connector but different NTC resistance values for different engine builds. They will physically fit but give incorrect readings.

The Perkins 400 Series includes 2-cylinder (402D), 3-cylinder (403D), and 4-cylinder (404D) variants found in Cat mini excavators, compact equipment, generators, and a wide range of OEM industrial applications. Failure symptoms: temperature gauge reading incorrectly, fan control issues, ECU fault codes. These small engines are sensitive to coolant temp errors — incorrect fueling from a bad sensor causes proportionally larger problems on a 0.5-1.5L engine than on a 4.4L. Verify by Perkins engine serial number.
