IMPORTANT:
Crankshaft drive gear for Perkins 4.236/4.248/4.2482 engines (3.86-3.96L, 4-cyl). This gear drives the lower idler (P41115007) which in turn drives the oil pump and timing train. It is the MASTER timing component — all other gears derive timing from this.

Do NOT confuse with P31171682 (6.354 crankshaft gear, 6-cyl) — similar part number but for a DIFFERENT engine. Also covers LD 4.236, T4.236, and 4.248 variants. When replacing, ALL timing marks must be aligned — one tooth off causes valve timing failure. Replace front seal and inspect all mating gears. Check crankshaft keyway for wear. At 35-60 years old, also inspect crankshaft nose for scoring.

⚠️ For 4.236/4.248 (4-cyl). NOT for 6.354 (6-cyl, use P31171682). Align timing marks.
