Description

UNIVERSAL MARINE WIRE — 8/2 AWG FLAT DUPLEX HIGH-CURRENT BOAT CABLE 50 FT SPOOL:

HIGH-CURRENT MARINE POWER CABLE — INVERTERS, WINDLASS, LARGE PUMPS:
8 AWG is heavy-gauge marine cable for high-current DC applications up to 80 amps continuous (outside engine spaces). This 8/2 flat duplex provides the standard ABYC color-coded DC pair (red + black) in a single jacketed cable for clean installation of inverters, windlasses, larger trolling motors, big bilge pumps, and other high-current accessories.

CABLE CONFIGURATION:
• 2 Conductors x 8 AWG Each (Red + Black ABYC DC Color Pair)
• White FLAT Outer PVC Jacket — Low-Profile Duplex Construction
• Class K Type 3 Tinned-Copper Stranding (Type III, Finely Stranded for Flexibility)
• 600V Voltage Rating (50V DC / 600V AC)
• 105°C Dry / 75°C Wet Temperature Rating
• Maximum Amperage: 80A Outside Engine Spaces, 68A Inside Engine Spaces
• UL Listed BC-5W2 Boat Cable per UL 1426
• 50 Foot Spool (Heavy Gauge Standard Length)

WHY 8 AWG IS HEAVY-CURRENT:
• 8 AWG carries up to 80 amps continuous in marine applications
• Significantly larger conductor than 10 AWG (~30-40A) for higher current
• Stiffer cable due to heavier copper — requires careful routing
• Longer runs benefit from 8 AWG for voltage drop management
• 50 foot spool length is the heavy-gauge standard (vs 100 ft for lighter gauges)

ABYC E-11 DC COLOR CODE — RED + BLACK PAIR:
Per ABYC E-11 marine electrical standards, this 8/2 flat duplex provides the traditional DC color pair in a single jacketed cable for clean, code-compliant high-current DC distribution wiring:
• RED = Positive 12V Ungrounded Conductor
• BLACK = Traditional DC Negative / Ground Return Conductor
Black remains acceptable per current ABYC standards (yellow has been preferred since the 2008 revision for new construction).

WHEN TO USE 8/2 — HIGH-CURRENT DC APPLICATIONS:
• 16/2 / 14/2 / 12/2 / 10/2 = lighter gauge for accessory branches
• 8/2 THIS ITEM (~80A) = HIGH-CURRENT main feeds, inverters, windlass
• 6/2 / 4/2 = even heavier — main battery cables, large inverters, starter circuits

COMMON 8/2 FLAT DUPLEX HIGH-CURRENT MARINE APPLICATIONS:
• Large Inverter Input Cables (1500-2500W Marine Inverters)
• Bow Thruster Power Cables (Smaller Bow Thrusters)
• Larger Windlass / Anchor Winch Main Feed Cables
• Trolling Motor Main Cables (24V/36V High-Thrust Motors)
• Battery-to-Battery Interconnect Cables (Paralleling)
• Heavy Bilge Pump Cables (2500+ GPH Pumps)
• Battery Management and Isolation Cables
• Large Alternator Output Cables
• High-Current Charger Output (60-80A Smart Chargers)
• Battery Selector Switch Cables
• Solar Charge Controller Output (Large Solar Arrays)
• Marine Refrigeration Main Feeds (Large Units)
• High-Current Accessory Subpanel Feeds
• Wakeboard Tower Amplifier Feeds (Very High Power Audio Systems)
• Dual Battery Isolation System Cables
• Engine Compartment Fan Power (Larger Fans)
• Hydraulic Pump Power Cables
• Watermaker Main Feed (Larger Units)
• Marine Air Conditioning DC Feed (Larger Reverse-Cycle Units)
• Cabin Heater Main Feed (Larger Units)
• Battery Bank Distribution Cables
• Auxiliary Battery Charging System Cables

NOT RECOMMENDED FOR (USE LARGER GAUGE OR DIFFERENT CABLE):
• Main Battery Cables in Larger Boats — Use 4 AWG, 2 AWG, or 1/0 AWG Single-Conductor
• Engine Starter Cables in Larger Engines — Use 4, 2, or 1/0 AWG Single-Conductor
• Very Large Inverters (3000W+) — Use 4/2 or 2/2 Cable
• Large Bow Thrusters — Use 4 AWG or 2 AWG Single-Conductor
• Currents Above ~80 Amps Continuous — Step Up to 6/2 or 4/2
• Smaller Accessories (Branch Circuits) — 8/2 is Oversized; Use 14/2 or 12/2
• AC Circuits — Use AC Triplex Cable (Black/White/Green)
• Bonding/Safety Ground — Use Single-Conductor Green Wire

COMPATIBLE VESSEL TYPES:
• Cabin Cruisers and Express Cruisers with High-Current DC Equipment
• Large Sailboats and Cruising Yachts
• Trawlers and Sportfish Boats with Inverters and Windlasses
• Center Console and Walk-Around Boats with High-Power Trolling Motors
• Pontoon Boats and Houseboats with Large Inverter Systems
• Liveaboard Vessels with Solar / Inverter / Battery Bank Systems
• Bass Boats with High-Thrust 24V/36V Trolling Motors
• Larger Sterndrive and Inboard Powered Vessels

STANDARDS COMPLIANCE:
• UL Listed UL 1426 Boat Cable Standard
• UL Listed BC-5W2 Boat Cable Classification
• ABYC E-11 Compliant (American Boat & Yacht Council)
• United States Coast Guard (USCG) Approved
• Made in USA

FITMENT NOTE:
Universal heavy-gauge flat duplex marine cable — fits any marine application requiring 8/2 AWG paired DC conductors at high-current capacity (~80A continuous outside engine spaces, 68A inside). Not vehicle-specific. Per ABYC E-11, red is positive 12V and black is the traditional DC negative. Supplied in 50 foot spools (heavy-gauge standard length, vs 100 ft for lighter gauges). For lighter current use 10/2 (B7W10T-21) or 12/2 (B7W12T-21). For heavier current step up to 6/2 or 4/2.
