THE FAMOUS VERADO HIGH-IDLE ISSUE:
This isolator boot is the root cause of one of the most well-documented Mercury Verado problems. The original design would tear at the bottom over time, allowing an air leak that bypassed the Electronic Throttle Control:
• HIGH IDLE — Engine idles at higher than normal RPM
• EXTREMELY HIGH IDLE — Engine "races" at rest
• HISSING SOUND — Loud air leak noise from engine compartment
• ENGINE SURGING — Inconsistent idle RPM
• POSSIBLE CHECK ENGINE CODES — Mass air flow / throttle position discrepancies
• FIX: Replace this isolator boot with new (updated production design with attached base eliminates the separation problem)

DIAGNOSTIC SYMPTOMS REQUIRING REPLACEMENT:
• High Idle RPM (Above 700 RPM at Rest)
• Hissing Sound from Engine Area
• Engine Surging at Idle
• Check Engine Codes for Mass Air Flow or Throttle Position
• Visible Cracks or Tears on Isolator Boot
• Boot Has Separated from Base Mounting Flange
• Reduced Acceleration Response
• Inconsistent Throttle Response

INSTALLATION:
• Step 1: Disconnect battery negative cable for safety
• Step 2: Remove engine top cowling for access to engine compartment
• Step 3: Locate ETC unit on top of supercharger
• Step 4: Loosen clamps on existing isolator boot (both top and bottom)
• Step 5: Remove old torn or cracked isolator boot
• Step 6: Inspect ETC throttle plate for debris from torn boot
• Step 7: Position new isolator boot with proper orientation
• Step 8: Install clamps and tighten to specification (do not overtighten)
• Step 9: Reinstall cowling and reconnect battery
• Step 10: Start engine and verify idle is normal (no high idle / hissing)

NOTE: Verify your Mercury Verado HP rating and cylinder count before ordering. The 200 HP Verado was available in both L4 (4-cylinder Pro 200) and L6 (6-cylinder) configurations during 2006-2014 — confirm your cylinder count to ensure correct fitment. Updated production design eliminates the original bottom separation issue that caused recurring high-idle problems.
