39MT CONVERSION — EXPECT IT TO LOOK DIFFERENT FROM YOUR ORIGINAL:
These engines left the factory with a Delco 30MT series DIRECT DRIVE starter, a physically larger and much heavier motor that Delco now lists as an obsolete part. This 39MT PLGR gear reduction design converts the application. The 12-tooth 8/10 pitch pinion, counterclockwise rotation, SAE 3 three-bolt mounting and grounded case all match the original 30MT specification, so it bolts to the original bell housing without modification

ROTATABLE FLANGE — CLOCK THE SOLENOID WHERE YOU WANT IT:
The mounting flange on this unit is rotatable, so the solenoid can be clocked to the position the installation needs rather than the single fixed position of the original starter. The original 30MT carried its solenoid at the 330 degree position. If your engine bay, exhaust run or wiring calls for a different orientation, loosen the flange, rotate the housing to the desired clock position and retighten before installing

WEIGHT — A MUCH LIGHTER UNIT:
The original 30MT direct drive weighs 53.25 lb / 24.2 kg. The 39MT gear reduction produces its cranking torque through a reduction gearset instead of a large armature, so it is substantially lighter and easier to handle on an overhead or awkward mounting

ENGINE ROTATION — CHECK BEFORE ORDERING:
This is the COUNTERCLOCKWISE (CCW, left-hand) rotation starter, matching the original 30MT 1113228 specification. The clockwise starter is a different unit and will not crank a left-hand engine
