Gear Reduction OSGR Starter — Norton Commando 850 Mark III Electric Start
Off set gear reduction (OSGR) starter motor engineered for the 1975-1977 Norton Commando 850 Mark III (MKIII) Electric Start motorcycle. This high-performance 12-volt unit features a 4-brush motor producing 1.4 kW with clockwise rotation, 9-tooth pinion gear, and 15mm gear OD. The OSGR design uses an offset motor driving through reduction gears to deliver higher cranking torque while drawing less current than the original Prestolite direct drive starter. Lightweight construction at just 2.1 kg reduces overall engine weight. Direct bolt-on replacement requiring no modifications to the primary chaincase or bellhousing. Replaces Norton 06-4791 and Prestolite MGD4111, 46-2226.
