GEAR REDUCTION REPLACEMENT FOR THE ORIGINAL DIRECT DRIVE:
• Offset gear reduction replacing the original CAV direct drive
• Gear reduction multiplies torque, so 2.5 kW does the work of the larger original
• Smaller and lighter, with lower current draw on aged wiring

CRITICAL — NOT WET CLUTCH SEALED:
The original CAV and Lucas CA45 series starter fitted to these engines is an OIL SEALED direct drive unit. THIS GEAR REDUCTION REPLACEMENT IS NOT WET CLUTCH SEALED. If the starter nose on your engine sits in an oil wetted flywheel or bell housing, an unsealed starter will draw oil in and fail. Confirm whether your installation requires an oil sealed starter before ordering. Where it does, this unit is not suitable

FITMENT NOTES:
• 12 VOLT, offset gear reduction, clockwise rotation, 10-tooth pinion
• Gear outside diameter 39.9mm and tooth count are unchanged from the original CAV unit
• Three mounting holes, all 11.1mm unthreaded
• The original CAV direct drive unit is rated around 3.0 kW. This gear reduction unit is rated 2.5 kW but multiplies torque through the reduction gearset, so cranking performance is maintained rather than reduced
• SUFFIX MATTERS — the CAV CA45 family runs in several suffix variants. The -72 and -Y72 suffixes are the ones this unit replaces. CA45 starters carrying -2, -51 or -Y51 suffixes appear on different machine applications, so match the full number stamped on your original starter
• Dorman 3DA, Lister-Petter HB1 and the Perkins 6.354 generator applications carry no published model year range. Identify these by engine model and part number
