Installation Instructions

  • STARTER INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS WARNING!!!!!! Serious damage may occur to this unit if these procedures are not followed.
    • Disconnect the Negative (Ground) Battery Cable prior to removing the Starter.
    • Remove the connections from the unit being replaced. Note the locations of the terminals.
    • Charge the Battery with a Battery Charger. Test the Battery and replace if needed.
    • Inspect the Battery Cables. Replace Copper Clad Aluminum Cables with Copper Cables. Never replace only the Cable Ends.
    • Inspect the Ignition Wire as it connects to the Starter Solenoid. (This wire may accumulate corrosion within 6 inches of the Solenoid)
    • Compare the replacement unit to the Original Unit.
    • Follow Warning Sticker Instructions that may be included with the Starter.
    • Install replacement unit.
    • Inspect and reattach original connections to the replacement unit.
    • Change the Remote Solenoid, if applicable.
    • Reattach all support brackets that may have been attached to the Original Unit.
    • Do not over tighten the Solenoid Connections.
    • Connect the Negative (Ground) Battery Cable.
    • Start the Vehicle.
    • Do not operate any Starter for more than 30 seconds without allowing time for proper cool down of the Starter.

    How To Replace Your Starter
  • ALTERNATOR INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS WARNING!!!!!! Serious damage may occur to this unit if these procedures are not followed.
    • Disconnect the Negative (Ground) Battery Cable prior to removing the Alternator.
    • Remove the connections from the original unit. Note the locations of the terminals.
    • Charge the Battery with at Battery Charger. Test the Battery, after charging and replace, if needed.
    • Inspect the Battery Cables. Replace Copper Clad Aluminum Cables with Copper Cables.
    • Never replace on the Cable Ends.
    • Remove the original Alternator.
    • Inspect the Belt(s) for wear and damage, replace as necessary.
    • Inspect and replace the Belt Tensioner as needed. If there is belt dust on the original unit or excessive belt wear, the tensioner needs to be replaced. (A Worn Belt Tensioner is a major cause of premature or repeated Alternator failure.)
    • Compare the replacement unit to the original unit.
    • Compare the Pulley on the replacement unit to the original pulley making sure that multi groove pulleys match.
    • Follow Warning Sticker or Tech Alert Instructions that may be included with the Alternator.
    • Test the External Voltage Regulator, where applicable, and replace as needed. (Remember that the external Voltage Regulator has been in service for the same period of time as the Alternator)
    • Install replacement unit and adjust belt tension as per Manufacturer specifications
    • Inspect and reattach original connections to the replacement unit.
    • Connect the Negative (Ground) Battery Cable.
    • Do Not Attempt to “Polarize” an Alternator.
    • Start the Vehicle making sure that the dashboard warning light for the charging system is illuminated prior to starting the engine and is not illuminated after the vehicle is started. (The Warning Light must be functioning properly for the charging system to function properly.)
    • Check operating Voltage and Amperage at idle speed without any load or accessories turned on. Expect approximately 14.5 volts and 25 amps maximum, at idle speed, without load. (Call the Tech Line 1-866-695-0363, prior to putting the vehicle in service, if the charging system does not meet these expected readings.)
